Clematis alpina

Clematis alpina and its relatives bloom mainly in April/May and then surprise in summer or late summer with an after-bloom. These clematis originate not only in the Alpine region, but also in Northern and Eastern Europe, Japan and North America. They are characterized by extraordinary robustness and winter hardiness. They are suitable for almost all areas of use (sunny-shady and dry!). Horizontal growth over fences and hedges is preferred. Clematis alpina and its relatives all belong to pruning group 1. If pruning is nevertheless necessary, it is best to do this in mid to late May.
Only to wetness the fine root system reacts very sensitive, therefore Clematis of this main group should be planted if possible somewhat raised, in order to ensure an optimal water drainage.
